Career

While in New York, she performed off-Broadway, in regional Shakespeare, and on several TV shows. Overton first appeared on television in 2000 playing the role of Rainn Wilkins on “All My Children. In 2002, she debuted in Broadway as Elaine Robinson in the original cast of “The Graduate“. After 5 years in New York, she moved to Los Angeles where she has worked consistently in film and TV. She also wrote, directed, produced, and starred in “The Collective” in 2008 with her husband. In 2009, she played as Christie Monteiro in the Tekken movie. She likewise appeared in the HBO series True Blood as werewolf Rikki Naylor.

Kelly Overton is known for playing the role of the lead character in the Van Helsing Syfy series. Her character, Vanessa Van Helsing, is a descendant of the vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. Her unique blood possesses the power to turn vampires back into humans. After a three-year coma, Overton’s character has woken up into an unfamiliar world ruled by the vampires. She then found herself on an adventure to save humanity while looking for her missing daughter Dylan. It is a role far from being an often-unemployed single mother before The Rising. Kelly Overton’s character in Van Helsing is interestingly brave, tough, and impulsive. Exactly what she needs to be to keep going as she is sought-after by both humans and vampires.
