Van Helsing S03E04 sam mohamad

Van Helsing S03E04: “Rusty Cage” Overview

Van Helsing S03E04: “Rusty Cage” — Sam is back at the Juvenile Detention Center. He sits by the pool as he painfully reminisces about his time spent at the facility when he was a teenager. When his father left him at the facility, Sam begged him not to and promised that he will be good. Instead, his father told him, “You are not my son. You are evil.” His father told him he will never see him again. The teenager Sam got angry and bit off his father’s index finger. That’s when his signature of cutting off the victim’s finger began.  Sam laughs at the memory.

Somewhere on a train track, Ivory and Scab hide under a train car. Humans are hunting them. With no blood for days and the sun rising in the mountains, they are too weak to fight. A group of vampires arrives and rescues them. Scarhead promises he will take care of them with one little bite. Ivory stabs his eye and kills the others. Scarhead rises from the dead and grabs Ivory’s head. He tells her he is the new breed, and he is invincible. The dead vampires around them regenerate and rise again. Scarhead then bites Ivory in the neck while Scab watches silently nearby.

Sam remembers how he was bullied during his stay at the detention center and how a guard protected him. A mysterious woman wearing a black veil called out to the teenager Sam and said it’s time to begin. In the present, the same woman appears and tells him it’s time to end. She tells Sam to find what he needs and that the one who stands by him must be worthy.

Sam approaches the very hungry Mohamad. Mohamad demands he needs to feed. Sam teaches him how to control his yearnings. “If you control and command yourself, you have power,” he says.

Memories of the past come back flashing. The guard teaches the teenager Sam how to weld. He tells Sam that he can protect Sam while inside the facility, but he has to learn to protect himself when he goes out.

Bullies run after Sam. He hides and kills them one by one. Sam makes a big pendant out of his bullies’ teeth. The guard discovers what he did. Sam then slits the guard’s throat using the pendant. The mysterious woman orders him to keep the pendant safe for the end.

Back to the present, Sam goes back to where he hid the pendant and retrieves it. “You have what you need, but the one you choose must be worthy,” the mysterious woman whispers.

Scab goes out of hiding and goes to Ivory. He thinks she is dead, but Ivory wakes up feeling a new power flowing within her. She offers to give him the power so they can return to the Sisterhood to rule together. Ivory comforts Scab as she bites him.

Ivory and Scab return to the Sisterhood, but everything is gone. Men burned everything to the ground, and only a few sisters survived. Ivory vows vengeance and gives the power to the sisters.

At the Johnsons’ camp, supplies are running low. Mike and Chad discuss whether to bring Felix to hunt for food.

Mohamad questions Sam’s method of teaching him the vampire ways. Sam brings him to the woods to hunt. “You must hunt with power and control,” Sam says to Mohamad as they watch a group camping in the woods.  Mohamad chooses a target. He pursues his target and pins her down. Sam stops him from feeding on her. “You will be worthy,” Sam mutters.

Mike and Felix head out to hunt for food. Mike tells Felix that hunting takes practice, patience, and control. They see a deer, but Felix is not comfortable killing it. His arrow did not hit the animal.

Back at The Johnson’s camp, Mike, Chad, and the kids are enjoying Ethan’s story. Felix arrives with a deer he hunted.

Sam and Mohamad arrive at the camp. The kids run to safety, except for one little girl who runs to the underground bunkers. Felix goes to save her. Mohamad then traps Felix at the bunker. “You’re the mouse. I wanna kill you, but I must not,” says Mohamad. Felix asks him if he is the new Mohamad. I’m the only Mohamad, he answers. Sam pulls Felix out of the bunker and locks Mohamad in. Mohamad calls for Sam. Sam answers him that he is now the mouse. Sam then bites Felix, making him a vampire. “He will stand by me. He will be worthy,” Sam tells Mohamad.

In the morning, Sam and Felix hunt for food the way Sam wants it. Sam throws away his finger necklace and replaces it with the one he got from the detention center. The mysterious woman appears and instructs Sam to bring what he needs and bring the one that is worthy. “It is time,” she says.

Van Helsing S03E03: “I Awake” Overview

Van Helsing S03E03: “I Awake” — The Elder brings Vanessa to the memory of the past. She wakes up confused and in a foreign land. She finds a girl training with a large dagger. Vanessa disarms her and pins her down. The girl tells her she is her new servant, Siobhan, and that she is Lily Van Helsing. The proud granddaughter of Abraham Van Helsing and third-generation vampire hunter. Vanessa realizes that in this dream, she is in Lily’s memory of the year 1896 in Hong Kong.

Vanessa goes out for tea with the Governor’s wife, Agnes Fauntleroy. Agnes tells her their meeting is upon the request of Master Tsui, a Chinese gentleman who has ominous and important things to share with her. Agnes also shares that her father was a faithful servant of Abraham Van Helsing, so she knew Lily’s secrets. She explains the alarming situation in the city. The vampires are using the fatalities of the Bubonic Plague to hide their killings. Agnes instructs Vanessa on how to find Master Tsui.

Vanessa meets Lily’s husband, Edward. Edward thinks that vampires are merely Lily’s delusions and fantasies. He orders her to rest in her room because he cannot have her embarrass him with talk of vampires to his guest, Cyril Abernathy, the head of the East Asia Trading Company.

With Siobhan’s help, Vanessa sneaks out to meet Master Tsui. On her way, she encounters a dangerous kind of vampire. Master Tsui explains that the vampire is called a shadow walker. Shadow walkers are servants to a very dangerous ancient type of vampire, the B’ah. They move faster than a human eye can track, and they hide in the shadows. He adds that they were rarely seen inside the city. But now they are in Hong Kong. With the outbreak of Bubonic Plague outside the city, the shadow walkers come to the city for a clean supply of blood.

Master Tsui reveals to Vanessa he is also a vampire hunter, and that is why he wants to them meet. He is rather concerned as it appears she is not prepared. Master Tsui then trains Vanessa on how to fight and control her anger.

After the taxing training, Vanessa comes home to the news of Cyril Abernathy’s death. It appears that he’s been murdered by vampires. But Edward thinks that such a thing is only his wife’s hysterical nonsense. Vanessa drugs him to sleep so she could investigate.

Vanessa’s investigation leads her to a warehouse filled with shipping crates. She also finds a dead man on the floor and a Shadow Walker burning documents. The Shadow Walker tells her that coming was a mistake. He then fights Vanessa. The shadow walker manages to put a cut on her neck. “You cannot kill what you cannot see,” the Shadow Walker says. Master Tsui arrives and gives Vanessa a piece of helpful advice. Vanessa stabs the Shadow Walker in the stomach, killing him. Vanessa starts to feel her wound. She remembers that she is Lily in this dream, so she does not have her healing abilities.

Siobhan sews up Vanessa’s wound. Siobhan notices that something about Lily is different. She says she’s a little envious of the adventure her employer is having. Vanessa assures her that one day, women will have power, a voice and that they will chart their own courses and make their own decisions. Edward walks in on them. He sees Vanessa’s wound and dagger. He gets furious, thinking that his wife is having a relapse of her psychosis. Edward blames himself for her injury. “I need you to recover, Lily,” he says.  Vanessa tries to explain she not who he thinks she is, but it only makes things worse. Edward locks Vanessa and Siobhan in the room.

Edward intercepts a message from Master Tsui and goes to put a stop to her wife’s delusions. He instructs the guard that his wife and servant are not allowed to leave the room under any circumstances. Thanks to Vanessa’s clever exit strategy, she and Siobhan manage to break out. Vanessa sees Master Tsui’s message and realizes Edward is in danger. Siobhan convinces Vanessa to allow her to come along. Vanessa agrees on the condition that she waits outside. Siobhan excitedly follows Vanessa.

Master Tsui, Vanessa, and Siobhan arrive at the B’ah’s lair. Master Tsui explains that the vampires lure victims with drugs so they can feed in secrecy and darkness.

Edward is in bed with the B’ah. He is drugged but still manages to share his fear about his wife going mad. He also tells her Master Tsui’s name, and that his wife is a Van Helsing. The B’ah sees Master Tsui and Vanessa and reveals herself to them. She is thrilled to see two legacies of vampire killers. She narrates to Vanessa how Abraham almost took her head years ago. I’m here to finish what he didn’t, Vanessa answers. The B’ah says “I doubt that,” and throws a knife at Vanessa. Vanessa catches it with her hand, right before it hits her head.

Vanessa and Master Tsui are outnumbered and surrounded by the shadow walkers. “Impressive for a mortal,” the B’ah compliments Vanessa. She notices that Vanessa bleeds like a human but there is something different about her. Vanessa challenges her to come closer, but she says she will just wait for the poison to take effect. Master Tsui suggests they walk out of the place, considering the unfavorable circumstances. The B’ah grabs Edward and holds him hostage. “You run, he dies slowly, unless you die first,” she tells Vanessa. Vanessa cannot allow Edward to die. The B’ah realizes that they are in a memory created by another Elder. She asks why. “So I could learn how to destroy you.” Vanessa answers.

Vanessa and Master Tsui put up a valiant yet losing fight against the shadow walkers. Vanessa manages to turn the tide with yet another clever solution. She cuts the rope of the curtain to let the sunlight in, and the shadow walkers burn. She also tricks the B’ah to come close enough so she could stab her with her dagger. “I am certain that we will meet again, but next time, not in dreams.” The B’ah says before she completely disappears. Master Tsui mentions to Vanessa about the dark sleep of vampires. Vanessa realizes the B’ah is trying to leave China to go somewhere safe. Master Tsui, right before he dies, tells Vanessa that only the blood of the B’ah can stop the poison. It’s a relief Vanessa has the blood in her dagger.

Edward apologizes to his wife for doubting her. He vows to help her as much as he can. Agnes arrives bearing news that the ship containing a dozen of unusual crates from East Asia Trading Company has sailed to San Francisco.

Vanessa wakes up from the dream and makes it back to the asylum. The Elder is rather disappointed that she’s back alive. Vanessa decides to go to San Francisco. But first, she releases the Elder from his obligation to the Van Helsings and gives him his totem. “The more Elders there are, the greater the chance I’ll be betrayed.” She says right before plunging the dagger into his heart.

Van Helsing S03E02: “Super Unknown” Overview

Van Helsing S03E02: “Super Unknown” — It is 1906. A couple arrives at Renfield House. Lord Edward Hawkins checks in his wife, Lillian, in the asylum.  Before he goes, she gives him a vial necklace and orders him to give it to their daughter for safekeeping. The nurse then asks for Lillian’s maiden name. “Van Helsing. Lillian Van Helsing. But you may call me Lily.” She answers.

Lily breaks out from her room and goes to do her mission — to kill a vampire. She comes face to face with a different kind of vampire, one with blue eyes and a strong psychic abilities. Lily fails the mission.

Back to the present day, Vanessa, Scarlett, Axel, and the Elder arrive at a cabin in the woods. They ask the man to help them get to the asylum in exchange for one of Axel’s Kit-Kat bars. He agrees to take them to the asylum in the morning. But Vanessa is not willing to wait. She points her gun at the man.

They arrive at the asylum. The Elder suddenly attacks the man. The Elder may look like Susan, but he is still a vampire. He must feed, he says. Vanessa’s eyes turn red as she smells the blood, but she manages to shake it off.

Inside the asylum, they come across a room full of sleeping vampires, which Scarlett thought are only dead bodies. The vampires wake up, but oddly enough, they don’t attack. Instead, their eyes turn blue, and they start to use their psychic powers. Axel’s head starts to hurt. Vanessa and Scarlett start killing the vampires. The vampires’ psychic powers start to affect Scarlett but do not seem to affect Vanessa. The strongest vampire gets a hold of Scarlett. To fight him off, Scarlett tries a trick she has not done before — she bites the vampire. Her bite turns him into a human.

The vampire-now-turned-human introduces himself as Dr. Karloff. He makes himself helpful. He tells them the story of Lily Van Helsing, who died in the asylum under very mysterious circumstances.

Axel talks to Scarlett about Vanessa not being herself. He worries she is becoming more vampire.

Dr. Karloff brings out old hospital records. They find out that Lily died on her first night at the asylum due to extensive brain damage. Vanessa asks where Lily is buried. Dr. Karloff leads them to the cemetery in front of the facility. Vanessa and Scarlett start digging the grave while the doctor and Axel go back to get digging tools.

The doctor leads Axel into a creepy laboratory and knocks him out. Axel wakes up being tied into a chair and with electrodes attached to his head. It turns out, the doctor was a patient at the asylum before The Rising. He is very thrilled to suck the life out of Axel as he powers up the electroconvulsive therapy machine. The current from the machine causes seizures and knocks Axel out.

While digging, Vanessa wonders why Axel is not back yet. It leads Scarlett to talk about her relationship with him. Vanessa clears out she is not interested in Axel. Scarlett then confronts Vanessa about consistently shutting her down, and asks what happened to her at Blak Tek. Vanessa confesses she does not know what is going on with her, and that something changed after the Elder bit her. Before, she drinks blood just to get stronger, but now, she craves it. “If I start to turn, you know what you have to do, right?” she asks Scarlett. Scarlett comforts her by telling her they will figure it out.

Vanessa and Scarlett find a man’s skeleton on the grave instead of Lily’s. They decide to wait for Axel and Dr. Karloff to return.

Dr. Karloff confesses to Axel that he sent Vanessa and Scarlett on a bit of a wild goose chase. Axel tricks him into telling where Lily is actually buried. Convinced that Axel will die soon in his hands, he blurts out that she is on a mausoleum in the basement. Axel then breaks free, attacks him, and crushes his head using a chair.

Axel tells the sisters about what happened to the doctor and about the mausoleum. Scarlett asks if he is okay. He jokes about almost getting a lobotomy.

Now in the basement, Axel’s and Scarlett’s head start to hurt. Axel says it is the same from upstairs but worse. Vanessa orders them to go and to send the Elder to her. Now, she has to face the thing that killed Lily alone.

Vanessa comes face to face with a new and different kind of vampire. The vampire compliments her for her strength. She reveals she is a Van Helsing. The vampire unleashes his psychic powers. Vanessa falls to her knees. “Even one with powers as great as yours will not go forward,” he says. You can’t stop me, Vanessa answers as she tries to fight him off. Vanessa plunges her knife into his chest. He pulls it out effortlessly. The Elder appears behind Vanessa. She orders him to attack. The Elder bites the vampire and rips out his throat.

Vanessa, Scarlett, and Axel open Lily’s coffin. Strangely, Lily looks like she died yesterday. Her body is perfectly preserved. With her are the Elder’s totem, a beautiful bracelet, and a large dagger. The Elder orders Vanessa to move away from the dagger. Vanessa picks it up anyway. The Elder says it has stains of blood of the B’ah, one of the great Elders that Vanessa will ever face. The Elder tells her there’s so much she has to understand, and that she is not ready to face the strength of the B’ah. Vanessa orders him to teach her. He answers that it is better that he shows her. He then reaches out for Vanessa’s head.

Vanessa wakes up in a foreign land.

Van Helsing S03E01 fresh-tendrils

Van Helsing S03E01: “Fresh Tendrils” Overview

Van Helsing S03E01: “Fresh Tendrils” — It is 1986 at the Harkers’ house. A couple brings the 5-year-old Scarlett and Vanessa. The Harkers choose to keep Scarlett. The little Vanessa does not understand why they had to leave Scarlett behind and throws a tantrum in the car. The man, who Vanessa refuses to acknowledge as her father, explains that they are trying to keep both Vanessa and Scarlett alive. But they get into a car accident. The couple dies in the car crash while Vanessa survives.

Back to the present, Vanessa wakes and finds the Elder hovering over her. She attacks him. The Elder tells her that Scarlett sent him to find her. Vanessa does not believe him. The Elder takes the persona of Dylan, Scarlett, and finally, Susan, to calm Vanessa down. Vanessa then demands he takes her to Scarlett. The Elder reaches out to her head.

Vanessa meets Scarlett and Abby in a dreamy old castle. Scarlett introduces the dying Abby to Vanessa. They inform Vanessa that they set the Elder free and that he is pledged to serve the Van Helsings. Abby tells her daughter that a Van Helsing is born to sacrifice. As Van Helsings, it is their fate.  She reveals that the blood that infected the twins is from the Dark One and there is nothing like them in the whole world. She continues that if the Dark One ever gets free again, there would be no stopping it.

Abby instructs her children to never face the Dark One unless there is absolutely no other way. Each Elder has a totem that leads to the Dark One, she explains. Abby orders Vanessa to stop the Elders, find the totems, and destroy them. The answers are in the family book, she adds. Abby apologizes to Vanessa before taking her last breath.

Elsewhere, Sam, who apparently did not die from hanging himself, teaches the now-vampire Mohamad how to enjoy feeding on people.  They attack a group of survivors in the woods.

A helicopter is trying to land at Crooked Falls. Julius now has the ability to heal instantaneously, a trait he got from Scarhead’s bite. The group discusses a strategy on how to deal with the situation when the helicopter lands.

Vanessa is overwhelmed with what happened. The Elder, in the persona of Susan, urges her to work with him. Vanessa demands information about the other Elders. She also orders him to give her his totem. He does not possess it, he answers. It was taken when he was imprisoned, he adds.

Harrison and his men arrive at Crooked Falls. Axel goes out to look for Scarlett. He orders the rest of the group to get the intruders busy until he gets back.

Vanessa looks for the Van Helsing family book in Blak Tek. She discovers from the files that Denver is a safe place.

Harrison greets the group outside the building. Julius invites Harrison inside. Flesh miraculously crawls out of his grave alive.  Harrison asks if anyone can explain what just happened and that where Scarlett and Axel are. Flesh screams upon seeing Lucky’s grave.

Vanessa walks through a corridor with dead and wounded guards, and she could not control her blood lust.  She feeds on one of them.

Julius tries to comfort Flesh. Flesh blames him for ruining his life. Harrison is intrigued. Flesh tries to dig Lucky’s grave. Doc tells him to stop and that there’s nothing left of her. Harrison orders his men to take the group inside. Callie sees what is happening outside and grabs a gun.

Vanessa now hunts the woman who pretended to be her mother.

Inside the building at Crooked Falls, Harrison holds the group hostage. He demands to know where Scarlett is.

Scarhead and his vampires are scouting vampires in the woods to be transformed into Daywalkers.

Axel finds Scarlett. Scarlett explains why she had to go without letting him know. Axel informs her of the problem at Crooked Falls.

Elsewhere, Scab brings an animal for Ivory to feed on. She refuses and orders him to look for a human.

Harrison learns that the group’s leader is Abby. He also discovers that Julius has the ability to heal rapidly. He feels relieved that his creature, Scarhead, is still alive.

Vanessa catches up with her prey. The woman who pretended to be her mother has their family book. She confesses that it was she who infected Vanessa and Scarlett with the Dark One’s blood without their mother knowing about it. She says she did it just to see what would happen and claims that she created two little monsters. The woman then shots Vanessa. This time, the bullets no longer work. Vanessa then stabs her on the chest, killing her.

Scarlett and Axel arrive at the Crooked Falls to save the day. Scarlett beheads Harrison with her katana. Axel exchanges fires with Harrison’s men. Julius and Scarlet engage in close combat. Doc takes a bullet to save Jolene. A bullet hits Scarlet’s neck. Axel goes to help her. Callie saves Axel by killing the last of Harrison’s men. Scarlett simply coughs up the bullet from her mouth and instantly heals.

A helicopter arrives at Blak Tek. Vanessa reunites with her sister and friends.

Vanessa orders the group to go to Denver. She, Scarlett, and Axel bid the rest of the group goodbye. Scarlett gives Doc some of the Dark One’s blood and orders her to guard it with her life.

Vanessa, Scarlett, Axel, and the Elder are off to kill some vampires.

Van Helsing S02E13 black days elder

Van Helsing S02E13: “Black Days” Overview

Van Helsing S02E13: “Black Days” — Dmitri meets the Sisterhood’s oracle, who will lead him to the lair of the Elder. He refuses to kneel before her, saying he only kneels to his betters. His condescending attitude does not last long as the oracle brings him to his knees. She shows him how to use the key to find the Elder’s crypt. She tells him only three may go. The oracle then starts killing Dmitri’s vampires.

Scarlett and Abigail journey toward the mountain where the crypt is located. Scarlett asks her mother what’s in her necklace. It’s the first Dark One’s blood, she answers. It was given to her just after her mother was killed by the Elders. Scarlett inquires what it is for, but Abigail does not know. She says she was experimenting on the blood when she was pregnant with Scarlett and Vanessa. Scarlett gets mad at her for exposing them to the blood. Abigail wants Scarlett to have the necklace, but Scarlett declines. She says she does not want it and that Abigail can give it to Vanessa.

Dmitri, Scab, and Ivory reach the mountain. Dmitri opens the gateway using the key.

Soon enough, Scarlett and Abigail arrive at the mountain. They see the key on the door and realize Dmitri came before them. Scarlett tests Abigail to see if she really is her mother. She asks her where the key was hidden at the Farm. Of course, Abigail knows where she hid it — behind the mural. They then enter the tunnel.

It’s a long and torturous journey towards the Elder. Scab, Ivory, and Dmitri see their greatest fears while Abigail and Scarlett see memories from the Farm, which led to them being separated. Abigail explains to Scarlett why she had left her and Vanessa.

Abigail and Scarlett arrive first at the entrance to the crypt. Dmitri is not long behind. Abigail tells Scarlett of the tale of the Elders. She says that if Elders are ever to re-join again, the coffin of the Dark One can be re-opened, and it will be the end of them all. Dmitri, Scab, and Ivory then arrive at the entrance. Dmitri notices Vanessa’s absence. He hopes that something horrible happened to her. He orders Scab and Ivory to take Scarlett and Abigail.

The mother and daughter showcase their exceptional combat skills and give the vampires a ferocious fight. But Dmitri manages to take Scarlett hostage. He threatens to kill her if Abigail won’t open the crypt. The crypt can only be opened by Van Helsing blood and in exchange for a life. Abigail, in fear of losing her daughter again, opens the crypt even if it will cost her her life. She tells Scarlett she always knew there was a price.

“Freedom at last.” the Elder exclaims. Dmitri bows to him. The Elder recognizes Abigail and Scarlet and says they are Van Helsing but something else. Dmitri suggests he takes Abigail and Scarlett to regain his strength. The Elder approaches Scarlett and says the blood of the First flows through her veins. Dmitri recommends he takes Abigail as she is already dying. Just as when he is about to attack Abigail, Scarlett commands him to stop. Surprisingly, he heeds her command and bows before her. Scarlett gets confused. Abigail says the legend is true that when the Elder was captured, he was given a choice — fealty or death.

“Your blood is Van Helsing blood. I am sworn to protect it.” The Elder says. Until the Dark One is released from his prison or destroyed, I am your servant, he adds. Scarlett orders him to kill Dmitri to see if what he says is true. The Elder effortlessly crushes Dmitri’s head using his bare hands. He swears to never forgive Scarlett for making him do it.

Scarlett then orders the Elder to find Vanessa. He goes to do her bidding.

Abigail forces Scarlett to take her necklace before she loses consciousness. Scarlett makes her mother drink her blood in an attempt to save her.

The Elder finds Vanessa lying unconscious in Blak Tek. He bites her. Vanessa wakes up, and her eyes turn red.

Van Helsing S02E12 crooked falls

Van Helsing S02E12: “Crooked Falls” Overview

Van Helsing S02E12: “Crooked Falls” — The Elder appears in Scarlett’s dreams. He demands that she frees him now that Vanessa is gone. He says Vanessa’s light is no more, just mere shadows and silence. Scarlett swears to never set him free.

Scarlett wakes up from the dream. Axel calms her down. He reminds her that they are now in Crooked Falls.

At breakfast, Scarlett asks Jessie if there is any sign of Doc and Julius. Jessie answers that their boss went out to look for them.

The Boss finds a hole in their perimeter fence. She goes outside and sees a vampire attacking a car. She swiftly kills the vampire and urges the person trapped inside to come out. The person turns out to be Doc.

Jessie calls to the radio hoping someone would answer her. Axel asks her how it’s going. She says the transponder’s been busted, and she only gets a dozen or so miles in range. Axel asks her if she thinks there is still a world out there. “You got to hang on to hope. What else is there?” she answers.

The Boss and Doc walk back to Crooked Falls. They find a dead body along the way, along with Jessie’s balloon. They wonder why the map is missing. Doc says that ferals are too backward to use a map. The boss notices a trap and saves Doc. “They’re not supposed to make traps either.” She says.

Doc and the Boss arrive at Crooked Falls. Denis cannot believe they are being chased by ferals, even if it is still daylight. Axel asks Doc where Julius is.

Axel accuses Doc of leaving Julius to die. Doc tries to explain that Dmitri killed him. Axel does believe any word she says and concludes she does not care about anybody else but herself. Scarlett breaks them off and asks Doc if she has the key. Doc says she’s sorry and that she did everything she could. You’re the one that should be dead, Axel says in disappointment.

Lucky, Flesh, and Jolene could not decide which of the two roads to take to Crooked Falls. Callie appears out of nowhere. She says she found a balloon with a map. She then leads them to Crooked Falls.

Doc is upset about Axel not believing her. She bids farewell to Scarlett, but Denis stops her from leaving. It is not safe to go when it is almost dark. He says they all can go on daybreak.

The Boss powers up the electrical grid for defense. Their dog, Shadow, barks. Shots are being fired from a distance. Flesh, Lucky, Jolene, and Callie are being chased by ferals. The Boss orders to let them in. Shadow chases one of the ferals. Denis runs after him. The vampires get to Denis.

The Boss and McGrath search for Denis. Denis now comes back as a vampire. McGrath refuses to shoot Denis. Scarlett shots him without any hesitation.

Callie narrates to Doc what happened after she left the Triage. Jolene asks Doc was stealing all the blood for the vampire worth it. Doc says she does not know anymore. Axel comes and gives Callie food. Jolene realizes that Axel was the vampire in the woods. She sees a ray of hope.

The group discusses how the ferals are acting strange. They are smarter, and the sun does not burn them. The Boss decides to take some samples and do a biopsy.

Flesh and Lucky talk about their relationship. Lucky reveals that she might be pregnant.

The Boss and Doc study samples from Denis’ body. They find the vampire cells are unnaturally evolving.

The power goes off. The whole electrical grid is offline. They are now vulnerable to vampires. The vampires are using tools to break into the building. Their leader is one of the vampires that Vanessa freed from Blak Tek. The group fires at the vampires to stop them.  Their scar-head leader orders the vampires to retreat. The Boss decides to go fix the generator. Axel and Scarlett offer to help. Lucky and Flesh serve as lookout.

McGrath and the Boss manage to fix the generator. The scar-head leader ambushes them. The boss shots him. The vampires chase them as they make for a run towards safety.

At breakfast, Callie proudly announces to Jolene she will show Jessie how to fix the radio. Doc asks Jolene is she believes what Callie said. Jolene says Callie is a good luck charm. Everyone she runs with ends up dead, Doc answers.

The vampire Denis wakes up from the dead.

Doc and the Boss discover a spontaneous generation on Denis’ cell samples. The Boss thinks someone engineered it and that they need to engineer an antidote, or else, time will come they won’t be able to kill the vampires anymore. Doc offers to use her blood. She confesses she used to be a vampire and that Vanessa cured her.

Jessie sees Denis go out of the building. Flesh and Lucky go after him, but they get surrounded by vampires. The scar-leader brings Julius and asks them why is he immune from turning. Lucky shots the leader. The vampires then attack them. The leader grabs Lucky and bites her. Flesh assures her it is okay because they will find Vanessa. But Lucky brings out a hand grenade and orders Flesh to run. Flesh tells her he loves her. The vampires then attack Lucky. She detonates the grenade, killing the vampires with her.

Julius narrates to Axel how Doc tried to save him. He tells Scarlett Dmitri got the key. The Boss overhears their conversation and asks what key. Julius answers that it is the one Scarlett and Vanessa got from the Farm. The one that is supposed to open up the Elder’s crypt. She then asks Scarlett to come with her.

Doc catches Callie talking to someone on the radio. She tells the person on the other end their coordinates. The man answers that they are closing in on their location and orders them to stay where they are.

Axel hears a helicopter approaching Crooked Falls.

Elsewhere, The Boss brings Scarlett on a quest to get to the Elder before Dmitri does. Their conversation leads to The Boss revealing her true identity — She is Scarlett’s and Vanessa’s mother.

Sam says that his father was a man of strong decisions, good use of tools and that he found love. He then plays his favorite old dusty record. Sam picks up his prisoner and dances with him. He recalls that he was a shy boy and alone. He then feeds on his prisoner as he remembers the beating his father gave him as a child for killing a squirrel. “All I ever wanted is to be me and to be loved,” he adds. His prisoner dies in his arms.

In his memory, his father asks him what he did to deserve a son like Sam. The little Sam then grabs a knife and stabs his father’s eye. His father then hits his head with both hands, which resulted in him losing his sense of hearing.

Sam takes the cane his father used to hit him to the playground where he now holds his father hostage. He then beats his father to death.

When he returns to the house, Sam catches Cara trying to escape.  Mohamad attacks Sam from behind and chokes him with a string. Cara then stabs Sam in the chest. Unfortunately, Mohamad’s string breaks. Sam then grabs Cara’s throat. Mohamad takes all the blame and begs Sam to let Cara go. Sam grants Mohamad’s wish, and orders Cara to go. Cara runs towards the woods, while Sam tucks Mohamad in his bed. “Now it is time for the hunt. The mouse must be caught,” he announces.

Sam follows Cara’s trail into the woods. Meanwhile, Mohamad manages to break the floor and escapes from the house. Sam catches up to Cara. He drags her to the playground and ties her beside his father. Mohamad arrives at the scene and begs Sam. Sam stabs Cara to harvest her blood. He then grabs Mohamad by the throat. Mohamad challenges Sam to bite him so he can turn into a human again. Sam says he will bite Cara instead.

Mohamad stops Sam and reminds him that he owes him for saving his life on the day they met. “No. I saved you.” Sam answers. He confesses that hanging himself was a trap to lure Mohamad so he could kill him. Mohamad is distraught and furious by his confession. He says things that anger Sam. Sam then kicks him and bites Cara. Mohamad grabs Sam’s scissors and stabs Cara before she turns into a vampire. He says he is sorry. “It’s ok, it’s better this way,” Cara answers. He orders Mohamad to make sure she’s dead. Mohamad stabs her several times before she dies.

Mohamad blames Sam for making him kill Cara for nothing. Sam whines and says you did that all by yourself. Mohamad declares he will never be like Sam and stabs himself to death.  Sam runs to Mohamad and bites him in an attempt to save but he fails. He cries in agony while holding Mohamad’s dead body.

Sam brings Mohamad’s body to the chapel. He cuts his own index finger and adds it to his necklace before he hangs himself.  Mohamad then wakes up as a vampire.

Van Helsing S02E10: “Base Pair” Overview

Van Helsing S02E10: “Base Pair” — A man walks through the woods to Crooked Falls. He follows the maps attached to the deflated red balloons. Unfortunately, he fails to reach his destination because a vampire attacks him.

Vanessa sees the visions in her dreams. She wakes up in an unfamiliar place. She hears a man calling out to her in the vent. Someone then knocks on her door. She opens it and meets a startled woman. She pins her to the wall and asks her where she is and where her friends are. Vanessa walks away before the woman could answer.

Vanessa is in a scientific facility called Blak Tek. She sees vampires imprisoned in glass cages. She attacks every person she sees until she comes across Dr. Bruce Harrison. Harrison introduces himself as the one who runs the facility. He assures her that she is safe. Vanessa asks about her friends. She knocks him out when he answers they left them behind. Vanessa then enters a room that features a panoramic view of the mountains. She realizes she is in a facility at a mountain top.

The woman she attacked earlier approaches her again. The woman introduces herself as Abigail, and tells Vanessa they’ve been looking for her since the Rising began. She asks if it is true that Vanessa can change people back. Vanessa replies that she needs to get back to her friends to make sure they are ok until then she is not answering any questions. Abigail comments on Dr. Harrison’s method of kidnapping Vanessa. But she firmly believes that with Vanessa’s help, the work Dr. Harrison is doing could save them all.

Vanessa talks to Dr. Harrison in his office. He mentions that the government hired him to try to find a cure for vampirism before the Rising. Vanessa thinks that she has seen Dr. Harrison before. He mentions that his father did some work at the Farm. She asks him what he wants with her. He answers he is not sure and inquires if she can turn vampires to humans. Vanessa does not answer. He invites her to come with him instead. She grabs his key card before she follows him.

Now at the lab, Dr. Harrison shows her Martin, a volunteer test subject who is now a vampire. He explains that they injected Martin with the newest trial inoculate using a dead version of what they believed was a vampiric virus. The serum turned him into a vampire instead of protecting him. He wants Vanessa to turn him back to being human so he could study his blood before, during, and after transformation. He hopes that maybe they could find a cure with Vanessa’s help. Vanessa answers him she has to think about it, then walks away. Abigail runs after her and calls her Essa.  Vanessa stops at the sound of the familiar name. Abigail explains that she knew her mother back at the Farm, and she used to call her Essa when she was little. Vanessa is intrigued by Abigail’s revelation.

The man on the other room talks to Vanessa again. He warns her to be careful who she trusts because most people have no idea what is going on. Their conversation, however, is cut short.

Vanessa grabs the key card and proceeds to Dr. Harrison’s office. There, she finds a book about vampires.

Abigail approaches her while she reads the book. She talks about Vanessa’s mother. She narrates how her mother accidentally got infected with an experimental serum developed from the DNA of a very special vampire while she was pregnant with her twins. That when the military found out that Vanessa and Scarlett are special, their mother had to run and hide them. Vanessa asks if her mother is alive. Abigail could not answer, then excuses herself. Vanessa then sees the inscription A.V.H in the book. She stops Abigail from walking away and asks if her name is Abigail Van Helsing. “You’re my mother.” She concludes.

Abigail explains to Vanessa why she had to put her in hiding. Vanessa mentions that Scarlett was with her at the Farm. Her mother is surprised that Scarlett is alive. She is horrified when she realizes that her people left Scarlett behind when they took Vanessa. Vanessa consoles her and offers to help Dr. Harrison cure the vampire Martin.

The man on the other room talks to Vanessa again. He says it is good that she is helping, but there is so much more she can do. The man convinces Vanessa to follow her visions and let the Elder out. He adds that she should tell her mother about the visions because only she can help her.

Back at the lab, the vampire manages to free his hand and attacks Abigail. Vanessa and a technician come to her rescue. The vampire chokes the technician to death. Vanessa then grabs the vampire’s arm and bit him.

Martin is now human again. Vanessa asks him why he volunteered to be a test subject. Martin narrates his story leading to his decision. Abegail and Dr. Harrison start arguing. Vanessa checks up on her mother. Abigail relays that Dr. Harrison did not get the test result he wanted and that he wants Abigail to convince Vanessa to find the Elder and harvest his DNA to find recessive genes. Vanessa discloses that the Elder is calling to her. Abigail instructs her daughter to read the book about the Elder. He is the beginning of everything, she says. She then asks where the key is. Vanessa answers that Scarlett has it. Abigail warns her not to mention her visions nor the key to anyone.

Vanessa breaks into Dr. Harrison’s office again to investigate. She sees Dmitri’s file, as well as an old picture of a team of doctors, among which are Dr. Harrison and Abigail.  She realizes why Dr. Harrison is familiar — he was at the Farm when she was still a little girl.

Dr. Harrison informs Abigail that he did the blood work again, and it shows that Vanessa’s DNA does not have the answers. She asks her if she already talked to Vanessa about the Elder, and what is she not telling him. “I would rather be anywhere but here with you” Abigail answers.

Dr. Harrison goes to his office. Vanessa attacks him the moment he enters the door. She confronts him about not getting older. She accuses him of not working on a cure. He comes clean and explains that he developed the longevity drug on the Farm by accident and that he will die if does not continue taking it. Of course, Vanessa does not believe him. She knows he is only using her for selfish reasons. He tries to convince her still to go to the Elder for the sake of humanity. Vanessa then knocks him out again.

Vanessa walks in on her mother conducting an autopsy on Martin. Abigail explains that Martin crashed about an hour after he was turned. Vanessa is suspicious. She confirms that her mother knew Dr. Harrison is taking a longevity drug. But Abigail defends Dr. Harrison. She notes that Vanessa did not change. Her daughter is still quick to judge, slow to trust. But Vanessa says it does not mean she is wrong. She asks Abigail if she knows about the man in the room next to hers. She declares they are getting out of the facility, and they are taking the man with them.

Vanessa and Abigail are in search for the man. Vanessa opens his room with an ax. No one is there. She opens the vent and finds a speaker and realizes it was Harrison.

The emergency alarm goes off. They are looking for Vanessa and Abigail. They get cornered by the guards. Vanessa breaks the lock system and releases the vampires. The vampires attack the guards while she and Abigail run.

Vanessa is determined to escape from the facility. Abigail orders Vanessa to stop and to grow up for once. They need to stay and work with Harrison, she says. She adds that they need to get Scarlett and the key. The two of them can then follow their visions and lead them to the crypt. Abigail is sure it is the only way of finding the cure.

But Vanessa is skeptical. She asks Abigail if she knows about the voice in the vent. The man said the same thing about following her visions and freeing the Elder. She then asks Abigail where she hid the key to the crypt. Abigail answers he does not remember. “You are not my mom!” Vanessa exclaims. Abigail then shots Vanessa. “We’ll have your sister within the day, so we don’t need you anymore,” she says. She shots Vanessa again and adds that Scarlett has the key, has the same visions, and can lead them to the Elder. “Your mother did call you Essa, you know. She loved you with all her heart”, she says before shooting Vanessa again.

Van Helsing S02E09: “Wakey, Wakey” Overview

Van Helsing S02E09: “Wakey, Wakey” — It’s 1996, a vampire arrives at the Hilltop Cafe. He orders a raw steak, asks for a glass, squeezes the blood out of the stake, and then drinks it. After his meal, he asks for the Harkers. The waitress gives him directions. He leaves after paying for his meal.

Back in the present, the police officers are no match to the Sisterhood. Scarlet breaks free and helps Axel, Doc, and Julius. They grab some weapons before they escape. The remaining deputy asks them to take him, and in exchange, he will help them get to Crooked Falls. They run as the Sisterhood enters the building.

Scarlett suggests they split up. She hands the key to Julius and asks him to guard it with his life. The vampires will never suspect him having it, she adds. She and Axel try to draw the vampires away. Julius, Doc, and the deputy head for the mountain. The Sisterhood follows Scarlett’s trail of blood. But Dmitri is smart enough to go the other direction.

A vampire attacks the deputy out of nowhere. Julius kicks the vampire. The vampire reveals himself — it is Walt. Walt attacks Julius, but Julius beats him to death. They discover that the deputy was bitten by Walt. Doc kills him before he could turn into a vampire.

A flashback shows a teenager Scarlett making out with a boy in his truck. The making out turns into a fight when he calls her Scary Scarlett. She ends up pointing a knife at his throat. He pees on his pants out of fear. He calls her crazy bitch before driving away. Scarlett blames her dad that everyone thinks they are freaks. She is mad at him for turning her into a social outcast because he thinks she needs to be a great vampire killer. She says vampires are not real then walk away.

The Sisterhood catches up with Axel and Scarlett. It turns out bullets do not work on 200-year-old vampires. Scarlett leads Axel into an old cemetery. The Sisterhood stops pursuing them. Scarlett explains that they won’t fight on hallowed ground. The sisters are pure evil, but they still honor the dead, she adds. They then run towards the woods.

Axel and Scarlett lost the Sisterhood. They need a place to rest. An abandoned armored truck comes to sight. They run towards it. The truck is filled with cash and a corpse, too.

Julius and Doc rest at a convenience store. Julius is not getting enough of the junk food. The chips’ flavors did not exist back in his day. “Who knew sour cream and onion would taste so good together?” he exclaims. Doc laughs at him.

The teenager Scarlett deals with her frustrations by practicing on her knife skills. The vampire from the diner appears and snarls at her. Her dad shows up just in time and shoots the vampire. He scolds Scarlett for hesitating to kill the vampire and orders her to kill it. Scarlett is scared, but she is forced to follow her dad’s instructions. The vampire tells her she is weak and warns her that more will come, and she will die. Scarlett cuts his head with a samurai.

Back in the armored truck, Axel asks Scarlett how did she get so Kung fu-ey. She shares how his dad trained her to kill vampires since she was a kid. Scarlett asks him about his story. Axel opens up about how he lost his sister when he was 13 years old. It is the reason why he never left Vanessa when she was sleeping back in the hospital. Their heart to heart talk turns into physical intimacy.

The Sisterhood catches up to them. The sisters cannot get inside, but they are surrounded. The vampires smoke them out, which gives them no choice but to go outside and fight.

Scarlet fights two of the sisters while Axel fights one. Axel’s body armor made of cash proves to be useful. One of the vampires invites Scarlett to join her and become a sister. Scarlett politely declines. Scarlett’s fighting skills are on par with two vampires. Axel manages to kill his opponent. Meanwhile, Scarlett gets bitten by one of hers. To her surprise, her wound heals instantly, and the one that bit her turns into a human. The remaining sister runs for her life. Scarlett thinks her ability to heal and turn vampires into humans started when Vanessa bit her. Vanessa’s bite wakes her Van Helsing blood.

Dmitri and Scab finally find Julius and Doc. Julius puts up a fight, but he is no match to Dmitri. Dmitri gains possession of the key. He lets Doc go and instructs her to tell Vanessa what happened. Doc runs, leaving the unconscious Julius behind.

Scarlett’s dad tries to make her understand that killing vampires is her purpose now. But the young Scarlett does not understand why they have to burn their house and disappear. Her dad explains that more vampires will come for her and that until she is ready, they have to make them think that she is dead. She sadly watches as the fire engulfs their house. Her dad swears that one day it will all make sense to her. They then go off the grid to continue her training.

Scarlett remembers the time when her dad told her that one day it will all make sense. But now that she knows more, the less that it makes sense. She says they have to find Vanessa. Axel agrees and says they have to, even if it kills him.

Van Helsing S02E08: “Big Mama” Overview

Van Helsing S02E08: “Big Mama” — Axel wakes up in the field where they were knocked out by gas the night before.  Vanessa is nowhere in sight. He remembers what happened. He wakes Scarlett, Julius, and Doc up. They don’t know who took Vanessa, but they plan to find her.

While on the road, they hear sirens wailing. Behind them are police cars. They pull over. The police officers alighted from the vehicles. The Sheriff explains that they are just surprised to see another vehicle on the road and that they had to pull them over to check it out. Sheriff Walt Turner invites them to stop in town for barbeque and shower.

The group follows the police officers back to their place. Before inviting them inside, the police officers confiscate all their weapons, except for a knife which Scarlett manages to hide. They start to be suspicious.

Flesh and Lucky are in the woods trying to find Mohamad. They find Dmitri and his army with human hostages, instead. Some of the hostages are from the Triage, including the little girl Callie. They devise a plan to help the hostages.

Sheriff Turner gives his guests a house tour. They have a place big enough to house 200 people, two generators, they make their gasoline, and they have an armory filled with guns and weapons. Axel asks if they could get some ammo before they go. “Not a chance. Not one bullet.”, Walt answers. But he says he can offer them hot water, soap, a change of clothes, food, and gas. Hospitality only goes so far.

After a shower, Scarlett tells Axel she’s ready to go. She does not trust Walt. But Axel wants to stay for dinner.

Back in the woods, Flesh and Lucky track the vampires and their human prisoners. They succeed in their rescue mission. But Callie is missing.

Walt introduces the group to their cook and police dispatcher, Big Mama. Big Mama says she needs meat for their dinner. Walt invites them to come along to help prepare the roast. Axel and Scarlett volunteer. They soon discover the police officers eat vampires. No wonder they have an unlimited supply of meat. Walt tries to justify their gruesome ways.

Axel and Scarlett inform Doc and Julius that their hosts are cannibals and that their big feast is a vampire being roasted under a UV light. They discuss their exit plan.

Axel and Scarlett head out to the armory and grab some weapons. Doc grabs her things. But Julius, instead of getting his things, goes to the kitchen to see for himself. He opens the spit and sees a vampire being roasted. The vampire wakes up and tries to attack him. He kills it with a kitchen knife. Big Mama gets angry at him for spoiling dinner and attacks him from behind. Julius fights her off. He stabs her chest using the same knife.

Axel and Scarlet arrive at their vehicle. Doc then joins them. Julius, on the other hand, is late. The police officers fire at them. Walt demands them to open the door. Axel then obliges. Walt asks them who gutted Big Mama. They all look at Julius.

Now held hostage, Walt interrogates them. Scarlett manages to cut the ropes with her knife. She puts up a fight, plunges the knife into Walt’s leg, and points a gun to his head. But she is outnumbered. To save Scarlett, Julius offers to tell them what they want to know. He confesses that he killed Big Mama because he could not stand what she was doing to a vampire. Doc tries to stop him, but he blurts out that he used to be a vampire. Walt is not buying it. Doc admits that she and Axel were vampires, too. A deputy interjects he wonders what they taste like. Walt says they ought to find out. He then orders his men to set up the roof for the test.

Axel, Scarlett, Doc, and Julius are held in the rooftop with ropes around their neck. Walt says this is justice for killing Big Mama, but an old-school type justice — a Salem witch trial. They will toss them over one by one. If they die from hanging, they are humans. But if they live, they are vampires, and they will be eaten. Fortunately, and unfortunately, at the same time, the test is cut short by the arrival of the Sisterhood. Scarlett warns the police that the Sisterhood are killers. But Walt is confident they can defeat them. A deputy points out that they have the advantage of the rooftop, right before a spear made of bone plunges through his chest. Scarlett tries to convince Walt to let them go, or else they all die. Walt orders his men to go down and get their “dinner” instead.
