Van Helsing S03E05: “Pretty Noose” — Vanessa, Scarlett, and Axel arrive in San Francisco. Doc, Jolene, Julius, and Flesh start a new life in Denver Safezone.

Paterson, Raskin, and Mendoza narrate what happened to San Francisco since the ancient-warrior-kind of vampires overrun the city three weeks ago.  They are on a mission to find the missing members of their unit. Axel decides to help them while Vanessa and Scarlett continue the mission to find and kill the B’ah.

Doc and Jolene remember their time spent at the Triage as they settle in their new room. Julius and Flesh, on the other hand, are having a rough time settling in. Flesh still hates Julius and says he is the last person he wants to be spending time with. He gets furious and demands that Julius stops calling him Flesh. “That’s the name that you gave me after you turned me. I’m not your boy anymore. My name’s Phil. Phil Fleischman.” He says.

Vanessa and Scarlett come across some of B’ah’s ninja warriors. They manage to slay their enemies after some intense Kung Fu fighting, but not without an injury because Scarlett was stabbed. They meet a group of local survivors who bring them to their hideout.

Doc and Jolene start working in the community’s hospital.

Vanessa and Scarlett talk to the group’s leader, Mary Beth. Mary Beth tells them how things fell apart three weeks back. Vanessa realizes she was tricked by the Elder. Meeting the B’ah in the memory created by another Elder awoken the sleeping B’ah. Scarlett starts to feel her wound and collapses. It turns out she was stabbed with the B’ah’s poison. Vanessa needs the B’ah’s blood to save Scarlett. She asks Barry to take her to the wharf where the vampire attacks started. They find B’ah’s crates.

Jolene gets a vaccine which is supposed to work as a repellant for vampires, while Doc starts examining the Dark One’s blood. At lunch, Jolene tells Doc about her co-worker Jared and how she turned him down by telling him she has a girlfriend. “I like you, Sarah.” She confesses. “I like you, too,” Doc answers, and they kiss. Meanwhile, Julius applies for a job at a bar. Frankie hires him.

Doc is confused about her feelings. She confesses she’s a virgin and that having feelings for Jolene freaks her out. “You scare me, but I have never met anyone that makes me feel like you do,” she adds. She and Jolene decide to just take things slow.

Elsewhere in San Francisco, Axel and his new team find the dead soldiers. Unfortunately, it appears they stumble directly on the B’ah’s lair.

Van Helsing S02E05: “Save Yourself” Overview

Sam greets Vanessa. Vanessa hits him with an ax. Sam laughs as he runs. Vanessa pursues him.

Meanwhile, Julius, Mike, and Ethan rescue the locked up teenagers.

Vanessa continues in a cat-and-mouse game with Sam. Sam is having fun. He escapes from Vanessa.

Axel and Doc are still in the woods looking for Vanessa.

Julius and the rest of the Johnsons gathered all the survivors. They head back to their camp. Vanessa is determined to hunt and kill Sam. Julius realizes who his mother’s killer is.  He vouches to avenge his mother’s death by helping Vanessa.

Flesh, Mohamad, and Lucky are on a quest to find Vanessa. Flesh has visions in his dreams.

Vanessa and the group are back at the camp. The camp has been attacked by Sam. Vanessa decides to go after Sam. Julius offers to help her. But Vanessa leaves while Julius is sleeping. She talks to Felix and Troy on her way. Felix asks her who is Mohamad and if there is anything he can do to help kill Sam. Vanessa asks for his arm, cuts it, and then drinks his blood.  

Flesh, Mohamad, and Lucky stops at an abandoned cabin in the woods to rest. Lucky and Flesh act on their feelings for each other.

Axel is slowly dying. He still refuses to feed on Doc. Doc tries to reason out with him. Axel finally gives in. They stop for the night. Axel is doubtful that he would survive. He asks Doc to kill him if they don’t find Vanessa soon.

Dmitri receives the news of Antonasia’s death. He gets furious at Vanessa.

Vanessa finds Sam in an old church. A vicious fight ensues. Sam manages to stab Vanessa. He then chokes her and pins her to the wall. Fortunately, Julius comes to the rescue. Sam tells him how his mother died to distract him. Vanessa regains consciousness. Sam then runs to the bell tower. Vanessa and Julius corner him. Sam realizes that Vanessa drinks blood now. Vanessa answers that she will drink his blood next. Sam then throws himself out the window.

Doc wakes up in the middle of the night. She draws the vision in her dreams. Axel sees her drawing and says he knows where it is.

Dmitri arrives at Julius’ camp. He convinces Julius’s army to join him to find and kill Vanessa.

Sam survives the fall and escapes. Julius says they will track him. But Vanessa sees a vision. She sees the red door. And so does Julius.  They head to the red door instead of tracking Sam.

Now at Julius’ camp, Vanessa is being dragged by the vampires. Julius’ mother notes that the vampires fear to hear. Julius comments that Vanessa could change them and that she will lead Julius to Rebecca and that Rebecca will lead him to Dmitri.

Dr. Sholomenko approaches Dmitri. Dmitri introduces to him his sister Antonasia. Dr. Sholomenko then relays a message from Julius’ camp. He says that the woman they seek exists, that she turned one of Julius’ vampire, and that Julius has already captured her.

At the hospital, the new-comers are settling in. Axel blames them for losing Vanessa. While Doc tends to the injured Roger, Axel tells her he got to find Vanessa. Brendon, the leader of the refugees, talks to Axel about their situation.

Back at Julius’ camp, Vanessa’s hands are tied. Julius asks who is brave enough to fight Vanessa. Vanessa’s best-friend-turned-vampire Susan volunteers. Julius then releases Vanessa’s hands. Susan confesses she killed Dylan. Vanessa attacks her. Vanessa bites Susan during the fight. Susan falls to her knees and vomits blood. Susan turns into a human. Vanessa and Susan run to escape. Ferals and feeders pursue them. Susan tells Vanessa that what she said about Dylan is not true. She then narrates what happened after Vanessa died.

Elsewhere, Sheema crawls in the vents and steals the citadel’s blueprint from Rebecca’s room. Rebecca catches her but lets her leave unharmed in exchange for the promise to do all her bidding.

The refugees at the hospital are holding a meeting. Axel asks Sam to figure out what they are saying. With his lip-reading skills, Sam figures out their plans. Tension builds between Axel and Brendan. Doc then finds Roger covered in blood. Brendan barges in and asks what is going on. Doc answers that Roger is dead, but she tries to hide the true cause. John reveals the truth that Roger was murdered. The refugees panic and stage a coup against Axel. They lock everyone from Axel’s group in the cage, including John who helped them take control of Axel. Inside the cage, they talk about the mysterious murderer and start accusing each other.

Vanessa and Susan reach the sewer entrance. The vampires are scared to follow them down the sewer. Julius threatens to kill them if they don’t.

Brendan informs Axel’s group that they plan to exile all of them. Axel admits he is the murderer so the others will not be exiled. But Brendan does not believe him. Mohamad then confesses he did the killings. Sam tries to save Mohamad by admitting he is the killer. Mohamad promises him they will see each other again soon. Brendan and his group then banished Mohamad. Sam is heartbroken to see his friend go.

Sheema lays the citadel’s blueprint. They plot a plan to penetrate the building.

Vanessa and Susan navigate through the sewers. The vampires are not far behind. A beast kidnaps one of the pursuers.

Axel is sure Mohamad is not the murderer. Brendan also thinks the same, but he says he has to thin the herd until he gets the killer to protect his people. Mohamad, now alone and armed with nothing, runs for his life. Axel plans to get out of the cage and take everything back from Brendan’s group.

The beast closes in on Vanessa and Susan. Vanessa tells Susan to run.
